Last Sunday was {A’s} All Star Game Day. But late the evening before, when we started to feel a little pressure, it occurred to {A} and I……..we need Wheaties for breakfast tomorrow morning! I mean….it’s the ‘Breakfast of Champions’ right? It’s necessary before a big game like that!! Thankfully, Daddy-Boy embraced our sense of urgency, and ran out and got a box!
As excited as she was for the day, it was all a little bitter-sweet, because it was supposed to be a big family day for us. But…the little ones were just not well enough yet, after their bout of fevers and all, to go. So Daddy stayed home with them, and I went so I could take a few photos. It was hard though….not letting the trio come. They have been SUCH FANS all year, of not only {A}, but her whole team!! All season, the 3 of them knew every single player by name…..and even knew their numbers by heart!! The girls loved them, and would always be willing to shoot and play some on-on-one with them after the games.
She got her jersey when she got there…..even had her own number on the back!
All in all, the day was great. They called out the players by name to center-court, one by one, just like they do at the big pro-championship games, as the crowd cheered for every player. Then the game was ON!! It was a whole different vibe, with all the best players playing each other! TENSE!!! But fun and exciting to watch at the same time!! So tense and fun.. I wasn’t taking as many photos as I normally would. I’ve only got one game shot to show here, because in all of the other shots, there are lots of other players I shouldn’t put on the blog, without their parents permission. But here’s one, with a little blur help.
At half-time, they had half-court shooting contests…..for a$1 a shot to raise money for the program
{A} was off the court for the end of the game. It was a really great game, with really great players who ‘brought their game’. In the end her team lost 23-26. But she was smiling anyway…..knowing she played well, and she was an ‘All-Star’!!
After the All-Star game, {A} and her team had one last scrimmage on their regular practice night, and the whole team all signed her basketball.
{A} is a little sad another season is over. But she has re-directed her attention and energy to some serious training for the next basketball season. She’s a serious, serious player, with a real passion for this game of basketball. It seems it will be THE MAIN GAME for this family, if the trio’s enthusiasm for this sport is any indication! Practicing shooting hoops, dribbling, blocking, game chit-chat and future-planning regarding basketball is a regular part of any given day around here! Even I am starting to play!! (I’m not bad either….beat my husband today, who can PLAY. My own Daddy, who was visiting, was mighty proud, and impressed. : )
And so the SUN goes down. But with all of her hard work that she plans on doing this spring, summer and into fall….another HOOP season will be here before we know it! Until then….you won’t have to hear us talk QUITE so much about basketball. : )
What sport is big in your family?? Are any of your kids really passionate about a particular sport? How about YOU?? Are you passionate about a sport of your own, or about any of your kids sports? (In other words…do you scream your head off from the sidelines, like me? : )
Tell the truth, now. lol And then have a fabulous day!
I may have missed this somewhere, but is this a community league? A homeschool team? A church league? I’m just curious where she hooked up with it. It will be interesting to see what Christian gravitates to. He loves anything with a ball and loves to run–constantly. Neither of his parents are the least bit competitive. In fact his dad would probably stop and help the other team if they were struggling. Christian is actually pretty good at golf. I’ve decided that it’s good I love photography. That way I won’t be bored with whatever he chooses because I’ll be busy taking pictures. I’m so not a sports fan. I like individual sports and physical/outdoor activities.
Good for you A! You are getting so big and so athletic! Mikey’s FAVORITE sport is basketball (next to football) and Michael’s passion/skills for the sport has certainly rubbed off as well. Mikey just tried out for the AAU team and we are still waiting to see if he made the cut. I think we need to get A and Mikey on the court to have a one on one, how cool would that be??? xoxoxo
Oh, I’ve been looking forward to your post on the All-Star Game! Way to go, girlie!! I love the pics and especially that braid!! I remember Noah making the All-Star team in baseball a few years back, and they introduced them individually like the pros, and they played music like you hear at the ballpark, and served hot dogs. It was so cool. He’s not so much into baseball anymore (at all) – we do fall soccer and then basketball – but our big sport is floor hockey. Kevin coaches Noah’s team and will coach both of them next year. Noah’s a very strong and focused player, and has improved immensely over the past year. Julia is awesome! People comment all the time on her aggressiveness and skills. She doesn’t back down, even up against kids that outweigh her by double (and she’s so small)! She scored the only 2 goals in her game on Saturday. This is her 2nd year, and Noah’s 4th. We just love it. I don’t scream my head off, but I’m probably the loudest mom there. We’re in the middle of the season right now, regular games will end in early April and then we have playoffs. Like you with basketball, we are always sad to see the season end. The other thing we’re very passionate about is going four-wheeling. We love to get out there and ride ride ride! We each have our own quad and try to get out on the trails as much as possible.
Football. We are a football family. Son #1 has played for 3 years and Son #2 is just old enough to play Tiny_mites this coming Fall. Sign-ups for 2009 are next week with practices beginning in August! Cannot wait!!
She sure looks like she loves the game! 🙂
My daughter is growing her hair out, in part because of seeing your daughter’s hair. We do a lot of sports, mainly hunting and fishing. We also canoe, bike ride, camp, and the kids play softball.
1. that first picture could seriously be an advertisment for wheaties.
2. i love her long braid, she is such a beautiful girl. my girl has long hair too.
3. doesn’t it seem like kids’ sports seasons are so short?
4. baseball is big in our family. we play it a lot together with the kids and i am always sore for a whole week when we do. the bigger boys play basketball too and when they do it is so intense, i don’t think anyone is quiet during their games. i can hardly stay seated myself and always have a sore throat when game time is over. i can’t even embroider during basketball games-but i do during baseball.
5. my girl and littlest son prefer baseball, which my husband and i love because it is our favorite sport. i never got to play when i was younger, which is why i try so hard to make sure the kids do. it is very important to me for them to be passionate about something, so we try to expose them to as many things as possible-music, art, photography, sports, etc. i love watching them discover they enjoy something……….geesh, sorry for rambling. i drank two cups of coffee tonite so that i could drive home-we went out of town-and now i can’t sleep-even though it is 2am. i am going to be hurting in the morning. i so should not drink coffee. it always makes me crazy! well, goodnite!
