On Faith, Gardening, and Digging Deep.

Our family really loves Sundays.  It’s just a feel-good-family day, all the way around.

This past Sunday after Mass, we all came home, and changed into our old clothes, so that we could get working in our garden beds.  Oh, the butterflies I get this time of year! It’s almost time for planting, so we needed to get all of the winter rye that we had growing in the beds, chopped down, and turned into the soil. There is much to do, to create soil rich enough to produce well for us.

Whenever I’m working in the gardens, especially in the planting season, my thoughts most always turn to my faith in God.Read More

Into the Light

When we need to clear our mind, and break the unhealthy circle of thoughts we are entertaining, we often find that going outdoors is almost like magic. Have you ever noticed that? The fresh air, the warmth of the sun, the sight of a bird soaring overhead, or the sounds of children laughing and playing nearby; all of the life around us, tend to give us a new sense of life inside ourselves.  We may feel rejuvenated, more positive, hopeful, and stronger.  For awhile. There are many tools in life, that are like power tools, for me.  Although they do not have electrical cords, or build physical objects, they build a sense of joy for me.Read More

Don't Leave It On The Desk.

I have a admittance to make.  I never read those FWDs (forwards), that show up in my e-mailbox. No matter who has sent it (and I get them from people I truly love), I just delete them, without even opening them first.  Because the thing is, there are just so many of them that come, and I know in the end…..some will be worth the read, and some won’t. But I won’t know which is which, until I’ve read each one, and that time I spent reading, is eaten!   Trust me, I have a few little routines of my own in each day already, that take enough time.  So I pass on the FWD’s, happily.Read More

Easter Reflection (by Laura)

They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they

entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. ~Luke 24:2

I am still very much growing, in my faith, and particularly in my Catholic faith.  I imagine I always will be.  Or I hope that will be the case, anyway.  For every Liturgical Season that I live through, I find a little more seeps in.  I grasp a familiar Scripture a little more than before, as the clarity of the story is as real as a movie playing in my mind….I am there, I see, I smell, I feel.Read More

Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad…

{JM, O & S} sure are!  This day, that they have waited for for so long, finally arrived! I promise, this is the last of the First Holy Communion posts – along with the Vittles post up right now.  We’re hoping someone, somewhere, is still interested, while we indulge in posting about this happy occasion one more time.  Anyway, I wasn’t going to take photos of them actually receiving for the first time, because it just didn’t seem right.  But….the other parents were told it was alright, as long as the photos were taken from their seats. So, I decided to do so too, not wanting to regret passing up the opportunity!  Even though my angle was awful!… Read More

Hi Folks!!

We apologize about the unplanned little blog break, but I had a really busy week with schooling and getting ready for an event I was hired for, for this past Saturday night, and I just never got to blogging!  I was a little stressed about it, to tell you the truth. I was praying the event would go smoothly and successfully, and it did, so I praise God for that, and breathe a sigh of relief that the big part is behind me.

Today has begun  Holy week, so as we move through it,  I am sure it’ll slow down around here a bit once again, as we help bring our children, in a mindful, prayerful and heartfelt way, through the most significant events of Jesus’ life, which led to the willing sacrifice of His own life, for us.… Read More

A New Crucifix for Our Home

We have a new crucifix for our home.  At mass a  couple of weeks ago, there was a guest speaker from  Bethlehem. He had 2 tables full of beautiful, hand crafted, religious wooden pieces for sale.  He explained to our parish how the families of Bethlehem make these items, as a means to support themselves.  Yet it seems that the town of Bethlehem is very poor now, because of a great decline in  tourists,  which is due to the danger there now, such as war, violence, kidnappings and the persecution of being Christians. He had a very heavy accent, and so we could not understand all of what he said, but it seems people are afraid to travel and visit there these days.  So in an effort to bring in more income for the families, they are traveling and selling the items they make.… Read More
