Boys’ Hardware Accessories

It seems to be somewhat easier, to come up with crafty ideas for my girls. But the other equal half of my kiddos, are boys!  I know they get just as excited when I am making something for them, too. So I try to see what cool ideas I can come up with, that they’ll dig.

Something recently got me thinking about hardware.  Hardware is just cool, and definitely boyish! With all the various sizes and shapes that it comes in, for all kinds of building and fix-it projects, I got brainstorming what cool projects I could come up with for my boys.  In this post, I’m sharing some hardware jewelry and belts I made for them.Read More

Tips, Tricks & How-To’s to Our Halloween Decor

I hope you all had the chance to join us, for our Halloween Decor Tour, in which we shared with you all of the festive touches I made, to put a little Halloween in the air, indoors and outdoors!  The post tour naturally consists of a ton of photos, or else how else could I show you all?  That, and my small chit-chat, made the post plenty long enough.  So I promised to share how I made some of the decor, in a separate post in the Crafts & Creations section soon. And here we are.

All of the signage design work that you see in this post (and the tour), that is similar in style and all ties together so beautifully, is part of the Halloween Party Complete Collection, which I purchased from Frosting & Ink Social Designery’s Etsy Shop.  Please note that everything that I printed out, I did so on textured white card stock.Read More

Our House Of Joyful Noise Link-Up Party #11, & Spotlighted Links!

& SPOTLIGHTED LINKS!

I wanted to thank everyone who has been coming around to link-up every Tuesday with us!!

Honestly, it’s a difficult process to choose features every week! Everyone is worthy, and I have never liked leaving people out. I want to choose everyone, and there are other times it’s hard not to choose the same bloggers we’ve chosen before. There are always so many inspiring and inventive ideas!  So, I can only do the best I can do, week depending. Anyhoo, this week, I need to keep it short and sweet, and get right to the party.Read More

& FEATURED PROJECTS

FROM LAST WEEK’S LINK-UPS!

Tuesday is here once again, and that means it’s time to TOOT a few horns, before we have another inspiring round of linky-partying!

Before I get to our features here, I just wanted to cut & paste a little message I put on our Facebook Page. (In case you aren’t following us there.) I really hope (really, really, reeeeeally hope….), that I don’t come across as a witch, saying this. Because my intentions are good, and encouraging.  But at the same time, I wouldn’t want thinking we never feature them because we don’t like their creative ideas or projects, either.Read More

FROM LAST WEEK’S LINK-UPS!

Memorial Day Weekend 2011 is coming to a close, as I sit here typing, exhausted from a wonderful 3 day weekend.  I could really go on a blab-fest about how Memorial Day hits home for me, as I know it sadly does for many of you as well.  Naturally, we all think of all of the American soldiers who have put their lives on the line for our country’s freedom, and sacrificed it.  For some of us, the pain of that loss hits very close to home, as we live with the loss of a loved one.   But we also celebrate our freedom, with gratitude to those soldiers, as Americans.Read More

Skeleton Key Accessories

I’ve always thought skeleton keys were pretty cool, even back when I was a kid.  While hunting at a frequented antique/junk stop of mine for old door knobs (for my recent Door Knob Project) I found some door knobs were part of a whole working set, complete with the opposite knob, door plate, locking mechanism, and of course…key holes.  That got me wondering if there might be some old skeleton keys around the place too. So I asked the old man who owns the place.

By golly he did.  He pulled out this box from under his desk, and dropped it in front of me with a clang.   At first sight, it was looking like I wasn’t going to find much.  But a little digging proved me wrong.Read More

Wild Thing….You-Make-My-Heart-Sing.

BARTERING, can be a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Just look what I struck a deal for…..

How’s THAT for a WILD chair??

Sit and relax for a minute, and I’ll tell you the tale of how it became m-i-n-e.

I got it from my friend, Michelle, owner of Stitch A Wish Designs. (This is her blog, and this is her web site. )  Michelle is an amazing boutique-style designer of all kinds of things, and I have featured her and her work, here on my blog  before. Well, I had learned while reading her blog, that she had gotten a Victorian-style sofa at this great little antique store nearby, called the Antique Chapel, which I frequent myself.   But with the sofa she really wanted, came 2 chairs she had to take also.  This chair above, was a nasty mess.  A dusty pink, extremely worn velvet, that was filthy too.  Imagine.  (Or see Michelle’s blog posts a few pages back, for all of the gory-to-glory photos….later.  There’s a different post on each of her 3 pieces she took, so you’ll have to look through them.) Well, Michelle turned the chair into what you see above.  I believe this piece was only her 2nd re-upholstery project, ever, (the sofa being her first), but it was sure good enough for me.… Read More

Michael's Projects: Wood Stove Bench – Part III/Finished

023

For those of you who have been following our blog for awhile, you’ll know how this post is a little late coming.  The project was done quite awhile ago – we just didn’t get to posting the last part of the project.  Not sure if anyone has literally been following this project to build a bench of their own anyway.  If so….we’re sorry!!

For the rest of you, who may be new to our blog here, or missed these project posts before, we can catch you up with links, and a brief explanation:   We were using a silly footstool at our wood stove over the winter, to sit upon as we loaded wood into the stove, or poked the fire some.  Eventually, I had mentioned that I thought Michael should build us a real rustic bench enough times, that he got to sketching.… Read More

Michael's Projects: Wood Stove Bench – Part II

So sorry about the big delay between the parts of this project. No doubt, many of you will need to refresh your memories about where we left off.  So here is Part I.   We’ll wait until you come back.

So below I need to cut out a rectangular notch for the cross beam to fit through. I have it sketched out in step one, which also shows 2 holes I drilled, as starters, for me to cut the notch with a saber saw.  I cut the rectangular hole to the size of 3×1.5 inches.   This is 4 inches down from the top, centered.… Read More

Michael's Projects: Wood Stove Bench – Part I

michael

Hi Everybody. I’m Michael, a.k.a. Mr. Our House Of Joyful Noise.  I’m excited to introduce my first project on the blog!  I’ll be working this project in parts, and blogging as I go.  I’ll do my best to explain what I’ve done, along with what photos we took, but if you find you still have questions, you can let me know in the comments to this post, and I will try to answer as best I can.  So check the comments for replies if you leave me a question.

The other day, my bride mentioned that she was tired of our little stool in front of the wood stove.  She wants something larger, homier, and I had to agree.… Read More

Smiles in the Kitchen

We are SO very blessed, that the man and head of our household and family (well, one of them, lol) is multi-talented.  There is NOTHING he cannot do.  He is what they refer to as a ‘Jack-of-all-trades’.  His vast abilities including mechanics, electronics, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, finishing, you name it….has probably saved us ga-zillions over the years.  His father is the same way, and that’s exactly where he got it from. They are natural born do-it-yourselfers-, and they do so with pride and quality in their work.

So I knew my new little dream could quite possibly come true, when I told my ever-loving husband I REALLY wanted a big chalkboard, custom built to fit our fridge.… Read More
