Fun at the Fair; (Come Stroll the Fair Series)

So we finally got the fair!!  It was the event of the summer we always look forward to.  (Well, one of them.)  It was a HOT day, (and humid), and we did get there a little later in the day than planned, but we got to do and see enough anyway.

Check out this robot guy!  He looked so cool, just standing there.  But it turned out, there was someone in there.  People would walk by, and he would reach out to them.  It scared some people!  It was funny to watch, and we did from a distance for a few minutes.

He was friendly enough!  So the fam (minus) me, had their photo taken with him.  Isn’t he cool?

The first stop was the agriculture building.

This pumpkin weighs 1, 105 pounds, as the sign above it says.  It won a blue ribbon.  You may also be able to read the sign above that says, “Please Do Not Touch The Pumpkin”.  Let me tell you how effective that sign is:    It isn’t.  EVERYONE I saw who went over to see this pumpkin, touched it. You have to!! It’s so weird looking, it looks spongy. I am sure people wonder if it is even real.  I know it’s real, but isn’t it ugly as sin?

Can you imagine that growing in my front year? lol

Squash and zucchini.

Now, call me ignorant and uneducated about agriculture, but these do not look much different than the squash I grew.  (You know, pre-disaster.)

There was also lots of baskets of other vegetables.

Apparently prize winning.

Some were pretty and colorful to look at, and photograph.   There were all kinds of vegetables, everywhere. Tomatoes, potatoes, onions, gourds, and things I hardly could name.

But please tell me, People, that even when my kids have grown and left the home, and I have more time on my hands than I know what to do with, that I will never be so bored, that I will be signing up my garden vegetables at the fair as contestants.

Maybe Kim the Farmer can explain this time me, because I’m a little confused. What is being judged?

If they got up and sang and danced like the Veggie Tales, I’d understand better.

I thought this was great.  These folks made and sold (s0me) wooden instruments for kids.  So they would sing and let any kids join in, with any instruments they wanted to use, from a basket nearby.  Truth be told, the lady couldn’t hold a candle to my singing voice. ; ), and I was itching to take over, but she was into it for sure, and it was cute watching all of the kids.

It was a task trying to take this shot, with the sunburst I was trying to get, but I guess I got it ok.  All the while, I was thinking how one would not catch me dead on that thing, for a long list of reasons.  So {O} really cracked me up when she was looking at this ride, and said to me, “I wouldn’t want to be trapped in those little boxes, you know?  With the really warm air? And the germs and stuff?”

Oh yeah, I know Honey!!  I told her I was right there with her on that!

She’s a thinker, like me.

The carousel was a must-do. Always great photos.  The kids went for 3 rounds.

I played with this shot.  The actual shot was a bit blurred, by accident. So it was either toss it, or make it blur more to look purposeful. Or, if one is gullable enough, think that that carousel is really going at a high rate of speed!  I was just having fun.  I know it is a mess. But I loved my boys in it and wanted to keep it.

Thanks for understanding.

Well isn’t she a picture.

I loved that she chose the girly horse.

The prettiest horse of all.

Now I know I said we never do rides.  We never have (besides the carousel).

The kids never ask or care either.  But I saw a few that might be fun and pretty safe, and because it was kid’s day, all rides were only 1 ticket!  So they tried a few.

And I took photos. :)

This was kind of a toddler-ish ride, but it was right up my safety-alley.  ; )  I was actually a pretty cool ride.

Then a mini roller-coaster.  It was getting real dark, and I couldn’t get the best shots for something so fast, because I chose not to bring and lug around my flash!  (I was mad at me, several times at the fair, about that.)  So, they have a psychadelic feel to these photos, which maybe works ok.

Aahhhh…..the ferris wheel.  Always beautiful to see.  It’s a staple-vision, at a fair, don’t you think?

But I got stuck up there too long, one time, and that was that.

Now I just take photos, and I’m happy with that.

There was lots in between all of these, and you can catch all of that in the next 2 Come Stroll the Fair Series coming up.

I hope you will all join us!

Am I talking too much, for a photo series??

(Yikes.)

P.S.  If you noticed any typos, missing words, or other non-sensicles, please forgive me. It’s 1:00 a.m., and I need to get to bed!

Laura, We never made it to the fair…most of the days it just rained :( I love your photos… the veggie shots are so colorful, it makes me want to go eat a veggy, and I hate eating veggies! ;)
The carousel shots are my favorites. You can see how much fun and how much they are enjoying experiencing it all! I’m glad you were able to go. If I was there I would have known they were your kids right away…I feel like I know them so well!

What great pictures. I love them all, including the veggies. Christian went to the fair for the first time this year. We went with our friend, and she paid for most of it. It was quite expensive, between the food that we all had and the rides that Christian did. We hope to go next year to a bigger county fair nearby. But we will need to save up our money for that. lol
