About this Vittles Section of the Blog

If there is one thing we ALL have in common, it’s FOOD.   Whether you eat to live, or live to eat….one way or another, we all eat!  Some just like the eating part. Some love it more than others.  But some like the making part too!  Experimenting.  Inventing. Whipping up this or that, and serving it to people they love, or even people they don’t know.  Personally, working in the kitchen was something I have had to nurture to death since the day I married, before I started rather enjoying it. (You have to know too, that my mother-in-law is full blooded Italian. So you can imagine my rough and slightly embarrassing transition over the years.)  But, truth be told, all kinds of funny and unexpected things have come around and popped up with my evolving of age.  Including, I am happy to report, working in the kitchen.  Better late than never, I say!  Michael can hold his own in the kitchen too.

Many families, like us, love to gather around the table,  spread with the vittles made in our kitchen, join hands, and give thanks to God for the abundance of nourishment He has provided us with, both for our bodies, and our souls.  As we bless ourselves at the closing of our prayer, we try to display a moment of restraint and grace, but then we all just dig in, no-holds-barred.  However, proper manners are expected throughout, now matter how excited we are.

But we think it only fair, to let you know right up front here:  We are not some gourmet cooks or bakers.  Not in the least. We’re just down-home folks, who love making and eating down-home food.  Just to drive home our point here and be clear:   We still have an electric stove/oven. Yes, it’s TRUE!  Sometimes, when I have nothing else more pressing to think about, I wonder if we are the only family left on the planet, who still have an electric stove/oven. Anyone care to debate that?  It’s not that that’s what we prefer.  It’s just what we HAVE.  Sure, it would be NICE to have a gas stove.  I know they cook better for sure.  But we’re grateful for what we have, like the bread that appears through nothing but God’s loving grace, on our table.

As a bonus, our oldest daughter, {A}, is an aspiring baker.  She plans, at her tender age of (almost) 12 years old, to open a bakery of her own one day.  So she does lots of practicing, and we do lots of taste-testing.  Aren’t we lucky??  Thankfully, she’s actually quite a good baker. Ambitious too. Except for the clean-up part.  ;  )   So you can count on lots of baked goods and desserts, in addition to the home cooking.

So what you’ll find here in the Vittles section, is posts about what we’ve been making.   We do love to try different recipes we saw on the net, or in a magazine, or one passed on to us.  We’ll be sharing the recipes we loved, with YOU.  Always with photos!  Most will even be in a step-by-step format, complete with photos and directions.

But here’s the part we’re most excited about!!  We’re going to have an open and indefinite invitation extended to YOU ALL, to send us your favorite recipe! If we’re so inspired and intrigued by the recipe you send us, we’ll make it, photograph it ( probably usually in the process of making it, but maybe sometimes just as a final dish), eat it, and blog about it!  If you’d like, we’d love to mention your first name, the general area you are from, and a link to your blog if you have one. But all or none of that is required, so don’t let that stop you from sending in your favorite recipe!   It will give us, and all of our blog visitors, an opportunity to create and share in what you deem as delicious!  So start sending those recipes in!!

Bon Appetite!
